| Photofacials An IPL Photofacial is the newest, safest, and most effective way to eradicate rosacea, fine lines around your eyes or mouth, pigmented lesions, scars, sun damage, broken blood vessels, and age spots. It is a series of full face, gentle pulsed light treatments resulting in more youthful looking skin and is designed to improve the visible appearance of the skin with little or no downtime. |

| During a photofacial, intense light waves are pulsed onto the affected areas of your skin. The light harmlessly passes through normal tissue and concentrates instead on tissue that has a red or brown discoloration, heating and destroying it. As this process takes place, facial pores shrink and wrinkles, spider veins and fine lines disappear, leaving your skin with a more even tone and feeling much smoother. Multiple treatments (4 to 6) are recommended at intervals of 3 weeks for the best results. Each treatment will take approximately 45 minutes. Some patients experience minor discomfort from the treatment and a topical cream can be applied before the procedure in order to eliminate this sensation. Regular activities may be resumed following treatment, however skin may appear red and tiny blood vessels may appear more visible, lasting less than 24 hours. Brown spots and freckles will appear darker for a few days but these will soon fall off, revealing smoother skin. Beginning with your first treatment, your skin will have a more even tone, with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade, fine wrinkles and lines will be reduced and pore sizes will shrink. Photofacials can also be used in the treatment of rosacea. Rosacea is a common, chronic condition of the face characterized by redness, dilated blood vessels and frequently-developing pustules and swelling. Blushing is its most devastating characteristic. It affects those who blush in an area that cannot be covered. While there is no easy cure, photofacial therapy is effective in treating and reducing the redness, flushing and prominent blood vessels associated with rosacea. The IPL emits a wavelength of light that concentrates in the red capillaries of the superficial skin and does not harm the surrounding tissues. The result is destruction of the capillaries and resolution of the redness with little downtime, pain or swelling. Photofacials cannot be done during pregnancy, nor can it be done on recently sun-tanned skin or in those who may receive excess sun exposure for a few weeks following treatment. It cannot be used on patients taking Accutane or for six months to one year after stopping Accutane. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact us. |
